Thunder Tiger Aviation Training offer a wide selection of training and checking that can be tailored to your individual needs. Courses can be run over weekends in order to suit working professionals or bespoke courses can be arranged for weekdays for 3 or more attendees. Just get in touch and you will be accommodated.

We also offer bespoke training courses for foreign operators seeking approval to operate in Irish Airspace, awareness courses for organisations wishing to use UAV's and educational programs for state bodies engaged in the use or otherwise of UAV's. Please contact us for all of your training needs.

The required ground training for an UAV Pilots Certificate of Competence is a 14 hour ground course spread over 2 days, from 0900 to 1730 each day. The syllabus covers the theory, legislation and operation of an UAV with subjects as follows:

Upon successful completion of the ground training course an individual can proceed to flight testing in order to obtain an RPAS Commercial Pilot's Licence once they have met the following requirements:


● Pilot must be in good health
● Minimum age 18 years old
● English language proficient
● 14hrs ground-school training
● Successful completion of ground-school exam
● 7hrs flight instruction*
● 12hrs logged flight time (may include 2hrs in a FSTD)*
● 20 Take-offs and landings*
● Successful completion of flight test
● All pilots must fly under a certified operator
*currently not mandatory


Upon qualification an individual will be permitted to fly in Irish Airspace under the rules and guidance material published on the IAA's website. Individuals must become an operator or subscribe to a recognised UAV operator before commercial work may be carried out.


In order for an individual to become an operator they must complete an Operators Course (currently included in the 2 day UAV Commercial Pilot Licence Ground Course), submit an Operations Manual to the IAA for approval in addition to the requirements as set out on the aerial works application form.
